Cancel Accounts.

I'm not sure if this is a good suggestion but what if there was a feature made for premium and non premium members that lets you disable your account with out the Community leaders doing it for you. I know that most of disabled accounts came from people that were banned because they violated some thing, but what if people just chose to disable their accounts because they want to. They have something like that in myspace where you just cancel your account and then it's canceled and you can make a new account anytime you want. This suggestion probably wiould not be considered. it's just a suggestion.

I imagine people would abuse such a feature. They'd cancel their own account every time they feel like trying to reinvent themselves.

I agree with Becky. If anyone really doesn't want to visit the zone any more they can just stop loggin in regartless if the account exists or not. And they can tern on the vacation feature so they wouldn't recieve any emails from the site.

This topic has been overdone; however, I'm much too lazy to go link-hunting, so I'll give the prevailing answer: if you tire of zoning, don't zone.

Agree Jim. It is like because i don't like a kind of food to ask a restaurant to stop coocking it instead of me not eating it lol.

the advantage of getting rid of accounts would be to free up space. for example if some one had a 2 minute audio profile, wouldn't getting rid of the account free up space?? just a thought.

Post 7 by purple penguin (Don't you hate it when someone answers their own questions? I do.) on Wednesday, 31-Oct-2007 11:19:00

Why not just get rid of the already disabled accounts. It's not like they will return any time.

Post 8 by midnight sun (you can't catch me, i'm the palobread man) on Wednesday, 31-Oct-2007 11:24:52

lol nikos. and i agree, getting rid of permanently disabled accounts would be a way to free up space

Post 9 by rat (star trek rules!) on Wednesday, 31-Oct-2007 12:51:50

we had this discussion too, it would mess up the ID system or something like that

Post 10 by Jage (Zone BBS, a decade of madness) on Wednesday, 31-Oct-2007 20:08:01

We'd free up some space but not a lot. You can't kill their board posts, etc.

Post 11 by Selena Fan (Account disabled) on Thursday, 01-Nov-2007 18:41:28

That's a grate idea Cassandra. If I could I'd disable mine just like on my space. Most web sites have this feature any way. I don't see how this could mess the Zone up for the rest of yall.

Post 12 by laced-unlaced (Account disabled) on Friday, 02-Nov-2007 17:16:51

yeah...and it wouldn't work, cos it will mess up all the user id numbers

Post 13 by changedheart421 (I've now got the bronze prolific poster award! now going for the silver award!) on Saturday, 03-Nov-2007 14:45:21

I do think though that if you do not use your acount by a certain time it should be removed. This can make it easier when brousing the profiles because there are people who have not ben here in 3 years.

Post 14 by peanut_butter_junkie (Veteran Zoner) on Monday, 12-Nov-2007 20:51:09

I had a previous name that people made fun of, so i had my account disabled and then came back on. I remember on the old telnet chatters, people could cancel their accounts by themselves.

Post 15 by Selena Fan (Account disabled) on Tuesday, 13-Nov-2007 2:50:33

Yeah if people haven't logged in like 3 years then they should be removed.

Post 16 by Q (Take my advice, I'm not using it anyhow.) on Tuesday, 13-Nov-2007 6:29:33

1. Deleting disabled accounts, or accounts that are not used for years, will not free up as much space as you would think.
2. If you don't want your zone account any more, just don't log into the Zone. It's really as simple as that.
3. If we were to allow people to disable their accounts themselves,
the rate at which certain users on here would get themselves new accounts, and as Becky so rightly put it "re-invent themselves", would be alarming.

And as an afterthought, if you're so concerned about freeing up some space, don't keep on bringing this topic up for discussion, because this contributes towards cluttering up space.

Post 17 by crazy_cat (Just a crazy cat) on Tuesday, 13-Nov-2007 15:05:33

And what about the valid point that if old accounts were removed it would make it easier to browse profiles?

Post 18 by margorp (I've got the gold prolific poster award, now is there a gold cup for me?) on Tuesday, 13-Nov-2007 15:09:36

Lol
I agree q.
I will say no more.

Post 19 by Q (Take my advice, I'm not using it anyhow.) on Tuesday, 13-Nov-2007 15:15:39

In my opinion, the fact that deleting these accounts will mess up the Zone's ID system, holds more weight than the fact that it would make browsing of profiles easier.

Post 20 by maroon five (I'm going for the prolific poster awards!) on Friday, 16-Nov-2007 6:47:32

I agree with Q as well, on both posts. You can't look at the profile if it's disabled anyway, can you? Plus, a lot of people have their id numbers memorized, so changing them might not be a good idea. Not that removing the acounts isn't a good idea, cause it is, but if it were to happen, people would end up with changed id numbers almost every day. Maybe, it might be an idea to remove the audio profiles of disabled acounts though. or, if someone hasn't been loged in for more than a year, to email the person and ask if they want their acounts disabled, or what ever.

Post 21 by Selena Fan (Account disabled) on Friday, 16-Nov-2007 7:02:45

Yeah I like what you said Liz.

Post 22 by Liz (The Original) on Friday, 16-Nov-2007 8:01:53

If we emailed people who haven't logged on for more than a year asking if they want their accounts disabled, we would still be disabling peoples' accounts, would we not? I agree with Q on all accounts here.
